Local olive oil blend meets global extra virgin benchmarks
Estate Blend features six olive varieties from Paso Robles vineyard
– Dubost Winery announced the latest test results for its Estate Blend olive oil, confirming that the product exceeds global standards for extra virgin olive oil classification.
The 2024 Estate Blend includes a field blend of olive varieties grown on the Dubost Estate Vineyard, which contains more than 600 olive trees on Paso Robles’ west side. This year’s composition is 27% Arbequina, 21% Manzanillo, 20% Leccino, 14% Frantoio, 10% Mission and 8% Ascolana.
Dubost Winery began cultivating olives in the late 1900s after planting its first 100 trees on a family ranch in the Adelaida area. Inspired by travels to Italy and Spain, the winery focused on producing olive oil suited to the region’s growing conditions.
The winery has tested its oil annually, consistently meeting extra virgin standards with a favorable flavor profile. In response to a customer inquiry, Dubost conducted its first polyphenol test this year to evaluate the oil’s antioxidant properties.
The results included low acidity, which indicates freshness and a longer shelf life, as well as minimal oxidation, which reflects careful handling during harvest, bottling and storage. The oil also demonstrated purity, a trait associated with the green hues and fruity flavors of unadulterated, high-quality olive oil.
According to test results, the oil contains 579 milligrams per kilogram of polyphenols. Counts above 250 milligrams per kilogram are considered high and are associated with numerous health benefits and a peppery flavor.
Dubost Winery’s olive oil is available for tasting at its facility at 9988 Chimney Rock Road, Paso Robles, CA, 93446. For more information, visit dubost@dubostwine.com.
