–The Great American Solar Eclipse is cutting across the continental U.S. the morning of Paso Robles Joint Unified School District’s first day back to school. Many people are excited about the opportunity to view the event, which rarely happens on American soil.

Safety is of utmost importance. Staff and students must remember that it is never okay to look directly at the sun. “We don’t look directly at the sun on normal days, nor do we look directly at the sun on this unique day,” said Public Information Officer Martha Clayton.

Paper viewing glasses have been purchased and will be divided up among the school sites.

Here are some details regarding the eclipse in Paso Robles:
Start of Partial Eclipse: 9:02 a.m.
    Maximum Eclipse: 10:17 a.m.
    Percent Eclipse: 67.47
End of Partial Eclipse: 11:39 a.m.

Each school site will have some tables set up in the quad areas on Monday morning with staff to provide assistance. The viewing glasses will be available to share with staff and students. Staff needs to continually remind students to not look directly at the sun as permanent eye damage can result. Sunglasses may not be used in place of solar viewing glasses.
