Local shelter offers $14 pet adoptions during Valentine’s event

Adoption event runs from Feb. 12-16

    – Woods Humane Society will host a “Bachelor Pet” adoption event from Feb. 12-16, reducing adoption fees for adult dogs and cats to $14, plus license fees for adult dogs. The event aims to help animals find homes during the Valentine’s season by lowering adoption costs, which typically range from $65 for senior cats to $150 for adult dogs.

“Inspired by popular reality dating shows, we hope that our Bachelor Pet event and reduced adoption fees will help draw attention to the many dog and cat ‘contestants’ who are waiting at Woods to find the love of their life,” said Woods Humane Society CEO Emily L’Heureux.

“Valentine’s Day is also a great time to celebrate the unconditional love that pets provide. Our dogs and cats are eager to bring joy and companionship to a special person, and the goal of this event is to help with that matchmaking process.”

L’Heureux said the promotion is designed to reduce barriers to adoption while encouraging the public to consider adopting animals in need. As pets find homes, space will become available for more animals at the shelter, including an expected influx of puppies and kittens this spring.

The adoption event runs from Feb. 12-16. All available animals have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, licensed, and treated for parasites. Adoptions also include a voluntary 30-day pet insurance offer and a free wellness exam at a participating veterinary clinic.

Woods Humane Society is located at 875 Oklahoma Ave. in San Luis Obispo and 2300 Ramona Rd. in Atascadero. The shelters are open daily from noon to 5 p.m., with adoption hours from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.woodshumane.org or call (805) 543-9316.
