Local teacher creating Youtube videos that help parents talk to kids about Coronavirus

Virginia Peterson Elementary School teacher Stormy Capalare said that when she saw her students come to school filled with fear about the COVID-19 coronavirus, she was inspired to help. Capalare has recently released two Youtube videos titled, “How to talk with kids about the Coronavirus,” and “How germs spread activity,” where she demonstrates how germs are spread using glitter and hand lotion.

“Students are having conversations about the coronavirus filled with fear, uncertainty, and lack of knowledge,” said Capalare. “They overhear adults talking, the news, and friends, and have a difficult time processing it.”

The videos cover basic tips based on the Center for Disease Control to avoid exposure and discuss good hygiene and the proactive measures the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is taking for COVID-19. Capalare uses basic analogies to help children understand and lesson fear, and information about why they may see people wearing masks and how to treat them by remembering to always show respect, empathy, and kindness to all.
