Local wine and beer making club scores big at Mid-state Fair

–Members of Wines and Steins, a local home wine and beer making club received 24 medals in the Home Wine Making competition at the Mid-state fair.

Club member Jim Bond took home a medal for Best Of Show/Best Red/Gold in the Red Wine category for his Syrah and a Gold for his Cabernet Sauvignon. Scott Mathews scored two Gold medals for his Primitivo and Zinfandel.

Members of the club are encouraged to enter state-wide and local home wine making competitions. This year several first-time contestants from the club participated with great results. One of the first-time contestant medal winners attributed his success to the mentoring program offered by the club saying “the ability to learn from experienced wine makers gave me the skills to make a good wine. I’m really proud of my silver medal.”

The credo of Wines and Steins is to foster home wine and beer making and to learn to appreciate the finer points of beer and wine making and the art of tastings.

The club meets monthly. Guests are always welcome. Visit the website for information about the next club meeting: www.WinesandSteins.org.
