Golden wedding celebrated by relatives and friends

Sunday afternoon many relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Angus M. Hardie of San Luis Obispo, gathered at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Lewis of this city to attend the golden wedding anniversary of the Hardies.

At noon Mr. and Mrs. Hardie and their children and other relatives, also Mrs. Tracy of Placerville, Mrs. Mabel of Salinas, and Mr. and Mrs. Childs of Oakland enjoyed a feast, which had been prepared for them in a large tent that had been erected on the lawn for the occasion. After dinner, a unique wedding ceremony was performed. The wedding march was played by Mrs. W.M. McAfee of Fresno, and Mr. and Mrs. Hardie, attired in the same garments which they wore when they wedded in Placerville, October 4, 1866, marched into the parlor followed by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Childs of Oakland, who had been the attendants at the celebration of fifty years ago. Little Dorothy Baker, a grandchild, was the ring bearer, and Rev. Mitchell of the Christian Church of Paso Robles, after reading the license that had been issued by the county clerk, repeated the ceremony, after which there were many congratulations showered on the happy couple by all present. Mr. and Mrs. Hardie made some very pleasant remarks, followed by Mr. and Mrs. Childs, after which there was a pleasant musical program which included many selections of the long ago.

Owing to the long residence of the couple in the county, and the numerous county offices that he held which have brought him into prominence, there were guests present from every section of the county, as well as old friends who knew them years ago in Placerville where they were married.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Hardie were all present.

    Big Jinx Halloween

Tuesday night, October 31, the Paso Robles Band and the Chamber of Commerce will give a big Halloween Jinx at the ball park.

This year’s Jinx will be a masquerade affair, and the various committees in charge assure the public that there will be something doing every minute.

Of course, you do not have to mask if you don’t wish to; and you don’t have to go, but every body else is making their plans to be there, and in costume, as it is the one night out of the year when the old fellow can get out and play a few pranks with the kids without shocking his neighbors.

Numerous attractions are being arranged that will rival the zone at the World’s Fair of 1915. We could tell what they are going to have but we won’t for if we did there would be such a crowd that they could not be handled and the committee has only made arrangements for a couple of hundred thousand. So come see for yourself.
