LOVR traffic improvement project finishes two months ahead of schedule

Ribbon Cutting

The new overpass expands the traffic flow from two lanes to four

–A crowd of local officials attended a ribbon cutting Tuesday at the Hampton Inn for the new Los Osos Valley Road widening project and overpass at 101 through San Luis Obispo. The $24 million dollar project was completed two months ahead of schedule.

Elected officials included representatives from Congresswoman Lois Capps and Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian’s office. All the San Luis Obispo City Council members attended the ribbon cutting, including Dan Armstrong, who is running for supervisor in that San Luis Obispo District. Supervisor Adam Hill did not attend, as he and his wife were out of town. Several dozen CalTrans officials turned out for the event as well. Among those to speak at the event was Kevin Drabinksi, who is the Senior Field Representative for Katcho Achadjian.

The new overpass expands the traffic flow from two lanes to four. The design also included aesthetic improvements, harkening back to the 30’s and 40’s when attractive elements were incorporated into the architecture of bridges and other highway structures.

“We’re very excited to reveal the enhancements to LOVR,” Project Manager Kyle Rowland said. “We could not have completed this project with such success without the help of our partners, San Luis Obispo Council of Governments and Caltrans, and the support and patience of the San Luis Obispo community.”
