Make a Día de los Muertos shrine with the Paso Robles City Library
Workshop to honor loved ones through miniature shrines
– The Paso Robles City Library will host an in-person workshop on Oct. 18, where participants will create miniature shrines in honor of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library Study Center.
Día de los Muertos is a cultural tradition in which family and friends remember loved ones who have died and create altars, often decorated with photos, possessions, favorite foods, sugar skulls, and marigolds. The library’s class will allow participants to create their own miniature versions of these altars.
Shrines will feature a sugar skull drawing, beads and sequins to represent flowers, and a heart to symbolize love for the deceased. Participants may also bring a photo of a loved one or small items under one inch high to include.
Family groups are welcome, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult because of the tools and materials used. Each person attending must register, and space is limited.
