Man arrested after reportedly threatening girlfriend with meat cleaver, barricading himself inside home

slo sheriff news
–On Oct. 11, deputies from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a female who says her fiancé threatened her with a meat cleaver and was destroying property in a home in the 100 block of Old Summit Road in rural Arroyo Grande.

The female victim was able to run outside the home where she called the sheriff’s office. The male suspect retreated back inside the home when deputies arrived on the scene. The suspect was identified as 52-year-old Brian Louis Garzoli of Arroyo Grande. He was the only person inside the home at this time.

Deputies immediately set up a perimeter around the house. The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT team) arrived on the scene. Sheriff’s negotiators began trying to contact Garzoli who had barricaded himself inside the home. Negotiators used a public address system as well as cell phone contact to attempt to coax Garzoli into giving up peacefully.

After repeated attempts to have Garzoli come out of the house, SED members initiated a chemical agent into the home to force Garzoli outside. At approximately 7 p.m., Garzoli came out of the home where he was arrested for criminal threats and committing a felony while out on bail. He was booked into County Jail. No booking photo is available at this time, since Garzoli is still being processed into the jail.
