–On Thursday at approximately 9:30 a.m., the San Luis Obispo Police Department was made aware of a report via social media of an indecent exposure that occurred on July 15, 2018. The victim reported that a tall male with long brown hair was following and watching her as she put items in her vehicle. When she returned to her vehicle a short time later after visiting another store, she noticed that he had parked next to her, pointed his phone in her direction and began masturbating. The victim immediately left the area but was able to get a good look at his vehicle. She described it as a white SUV, with a crack in the lower right corner of the windshield and a sticker in the right corner of the rear window.

A SLOPD Officer made contact with the victim and obtained a statement in this investigation. Our Officer then worked closely with the SLOPD Investigations Bureau, Crime Analyst and Records Division to develop leads. Upon hearing of the suspect’s unique description, our team developed Vernon Gray as a suspect in this investigation. Gray is an active 290 PC sex registrant and has prior convictions for similar crimes. The victim was shown a 6-pack lineup of suspects and she positively identified Gray. Further investigation yielded additional evidence implicating Gray in this crime.

On Thursday at approximately 1:47 p.m. SLOPD Officers located Gray at a jobsite in San Luis Obispo and arrested him for a felony charge of 314.1 PC, Indecent Exposure, and 3056 PC, Parole Violation. He was transported and booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail where he is being held without bail on the parole violation. (Bail of $20,000 on the 314.1 PC Charge).
