new laws california
–Early Sunday morning at approximately 12:20 a.m., California Highway Patrol dispatch received multiple 911 calls from passing motorists advising of a wrong-way driver traveling east on Highway 46 East in the vicinity of Mill Road.

The vehicle described as a small white sedan was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the highway. CHP officers responded to the area in an effort to intercept the wrong-way motorist. The vehicle was located on SR 46 East near the area of Whitley Gardens. It was stopped in a westbound lane, with its headlights off, facing east, according to CHP.

CHP officers quickly removed the driver from the vehicle and moved the sedan out of the traffic lane. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in this incident.

The driver, Lorenzo Gonzalez Ortega, was arrested for suspicion of DUI, driving with a suspended license and multiple warrants totaling $145,000.

The California Highway Patrol would like to thank the motorists who called 911 to advise of this incident. Thanks to their efforts, a possible tragedy was avoided.
