Man arrested for setting fire to Confederate flag

–On March 30, deputies from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a call regarding a Confederate flag that was burned in the parking lot of a restaurant at 649 Pier Avenue in Oceano.

The victim says she was inside the restaurant when the incident occurred. The flag was attached to the rear of the victim’s pickup truck. Witnesses reported seeing someone light the corner of the flag on fire. A customer at the restaurant put out the fire with a pitcher of water. Witnesses reported the suspect left the area on foot. A search was conducted but authorities were unable to locate the suspect. After reviewing surveillance tape, deputies were able to get a description of the suspect.

On March 31, at approximately 5 p.m., Deputies spotted a person who matched the description of the suspect, walking in the same general area of Pier Avenue in Oceano. Twenty-year-old Mitchell Davis from Seattle, WA was detained and then arrested for arson, resisting arrest, giving false identification to a peace officer, and a civil rights violation, according to the Sheriffs Office. Davis was booked in San Luis Obispo County Jail.
