– On June 28, at approximately 10:37 a.m., Paso Robles Police Department officers arrested Justin Robert Fontecchio related to a rash of counterfeit currency transactions occurring throughout the City of Paso Robles. Fontecchio is suspected of passing counterfeit currency at CVS Drugstore, Taco Bell, and Walmart stores in Paso Robles, according to police.

Since June 15, 2016, the PRPD has investigated at least 8 separate incidents of counterfeit currency being passed at area business. PRPD investigators say they are working to identify potential co-conspirators involved in these crimes.

Fontecchio was recognized by an officer who recently investigated a counterfeit case at CVS and reviewed surveillance footage of the suspect. The officer stopped Fontecchio as he was walking near the 100 block of Niblick Road, Paso Robles.

Fontecchio subsequently ran from officers and assaulted one of the officers by punching him in the face during the escape attempt. The same officer also sustained a minor injury to his hand while subduing Fontecchio. The officer was treated for minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

Fontecchio will be booked on the following charges:

– 7 counts of forgery
– 8 counts of burglary
– 1 count of vehicle theft
– 1 count of resisting arrest with injury
– 1 count of being under the influence of a controlled substance
