Update: Man who died in RV fire identified 

Update posted Aug. 26:

– The Coroner’s Unit of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the identity of a man who died on Monday in an RV fire in Los Osos. The man is identified as 44-year-old Christopher Wayne Surratt of Los Osos.

His body was discovered after deputies and Cal Fire responded to an RV that was fully engulfed in the 1900 block of Turri Road in Los Osos.

An autopsy has been completed. The official cause and manner of death are pending toxicology results. Preliminary results indicate Surratt died from smoke inhalation.

The sheriff’s office is conducting the death investigation. Cal Fire is conducting the fire investigation.

Identification of the man pending notification of next of kin

– On Monday, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Cal Fire crews responded to reports of an RV on fire in the 1900 block of Turri Road in Los Osos.

When first responders arrived on the scene, the RV was fully engulfed in flames. Once the flames were extinguished, the body of an adult male was located inside the RV.

Coroner’s detectives are in the process of identifying the deceased subject. Once that is completed next of kin will be notified and an autopsy will be conducted.

Preliminary reports indicate the fire was accidental.

The investigation is continuing. No further information is available at this time.
