Man sentenced to 20 years in state prison for stalking

Michael Sidney Smith

–On Tuesday, San Luis Obispo man Michael Sidney Smith, 55, plead guilty to felony stalking with a prior conviction for criminal threats and to an additional charge of making criminal threats. He was sentenced to twenty years in state prison, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office. He reportedly accepted a plea deal.

Smith engaged in a series of acts constituting stalking against his ex-wife during the spring and summer of 2016, including following her in violation of a criminal protective order and using social media to threaten her life. At the time, Smith was on parole from state prison for a previous domestic violence conviction also involving his ex-wife, reports say.
