Martin Luther King Jr. day recognized at Flamson

–On Saturday, Jan. 13, over 500 participants joined together at Flamson Middle School to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to carry out his message of unity, character, and hope. During this special program, community members offered musical and dramatic performances. A unity march, held by the Atascadero High School Drumline, preceded the celebration.

Dr. Joye Carter, MD, delivered a powerful keynote address focusing on the theme, “Character + infinite hope.” Carter talked of her early life when she looked for powerful role models for courage and guidance. Dr. Carter made history when she became the first graduate of Howard University to receive a board certification in Forensic Pathology, and later became the first African American to be appointed a Chief Medical Examiner in the United States in 1002.
