–On Saturday, March 17, 2018, St. Patrick’s Day, the San Luis Obispo Police Department will be at maximum deployment in anticipation of a busy holiday. In recent years, celebrations during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday have grown in popularity. This has led to an increase in the number of calls for service for police personnel throughout the day and evening. Many of the calls involve alcohol related incidents, parties in the neighborhoods, and large crowds in the downtown area.

The police department would like to remind residents and those that plan on visiting our City for the holiday that the “Safety Enhancement Zone” will be in effect during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. The entire area within the City of San Luis Obispo city limits is designated a safety enhancement zone from 12:01 AM on March 17th until 7:00 AM on March 18th. During this time period fines for the below listed San Luis Obispo Municipal Codes will be doubled, up to a maximum of $1,000.00.

Chapter 9.04 Possession of consumption of alcohol in public
Chapter 9.05 Hosting a gathering with minors consuming or possessing alcohol Chapter 9.12 Noise control
Chapter 9.13 Unruly gatherings
Chapter 9.16 Dangerous or deadly weapons
Chapter 9.20 Urinating in public

The Food, Beverage & Services Committee of Downtown SLO will be providing portable toilets at several locations in the downtown to provide ample options for people to use.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department would like to encourage everyone to have a safe St. Patrick’s Day. For additional information please contact Captain Jeff Smith at (805) 781-7321.
