May 1 is the end of open backyard burn season
–May 1, 2020, in accordance with the Public Resources Code, marks the end of the open burn season. Burning authorized under Backyard Burn Permits issued by the Air Pollution Control District (APCD) will be suspended until the end of the fire season.
In addition to an APCD Burn Permit, all other types of burning such as agricultural burning will now require a CAL FIRE Burn Permit to be issued by the local CAL FIRE Fire Station.

In order to minimize the risk of COVID-19 for both residents and First Responders, those requesting a CAL FIRE Burn Permit should not visit a Fire Station in person as in past years. In the next few days, CAL FIRE will provide an on-line application process that will allow a Burn Permit to be emailed to you following the required site inspection. Please check the CAL FIRE website above for further information when this becomes available.
In accordance with PRC 4291, residents within State Responsibility Areas are required to maintain 100 feet of Defensible Space around all habitable structures on their property. In addition to maintaining adequate defensible space, residents are encouraged to be vigilant and avoid activities that could spark unwanted fires such as mowing dry vegetation during warm, dry, or windy weather.
“We are increasing our response capabilities to deal with the upcoming fire season, residents need to be prepared as well. Now is the time to harden your homes and make your property fire safe,” said Fire Chief Scott Jalbert.
