Michael Alforque selected as new San Luis Obispo Deputy Fire Chief 

–Fire Chief Keith Aggson announced yesterday that Michael Alforque was selected as Deputy Fire Chief for the City of San Luis Obispo. Alforque has been a Battalion Fire Chief for the City of Fresno since 2016 and joins the city with 25 years of experience in the fire service.

Before serving the City of Fresno, Alforque served with the Kern County Fire Department as an A/V Specialist for three years. Alforque is a Safety Officer on the California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 (CIIMT 4), an all hazards emergency response team. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications, a master’s in administration, and is a state fire instructor. Alforque also was a volunteer Wrestling Coach at Fresno City College.

“Michael brings strong leadership skills and great knowledge of fire operations and training to this vital position. Michael has defined himself as a kind and credible servant and a positive leader. His thoughtful, direct and solution-focused attitude makes him an incredible addition to our Fire Department family and to the City leadership team,” Chief Aggson said.

The Deputy Fire Chief supervises emergency response crews, oversees the department’s training program, and assists the city’s disaster preparedness education efforts. Alforque will be active in helping the department complete a new training plan addressing mentorship and succession development along with the year two goals of the department strategic plan.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be a member of the San Luis Obispo Fire Department. With City Administration, Chief Aggson, and all members of SLO Fire, I want to continue to build internal and external relationships and provide our community WOW service,” Alforque said.
