–The Mid State Classic high school rodeo will be held Nov 17–19 at the Paso Robles Event Center. This high school rodeo is second in size to the State Finals which takes place every June in Bishop, CA. Contestants, in grades 9-12, will be competing in 13 events: Rein Cow Horse, Boys/Girls Cutting, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Bull Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, and Breakaway Roping. While any CHSRA member in good standing may enter the rodeo, contestants from Districts 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 will be competing for points for year-end placing within their respective districts. High School Rodeos consist of two go-rounds for each event. Competition begins Friday, November 17, at 8:00 am with Boys/Girls Cutting. At the end of the weekend, saddles will be awarded to the All-Around Cowboy and Cowgirl (determined by most points earned during the rodeo) among other awards to event champions and reserve event winners.

California High School Rodeo Association, (CHSRA), District 7 (The Magnificent Seven), has been hosting the event for 27 years. District 7 is comprised of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. Even though the adult board members are the primary organizers of the event, the youth members have a part to play in the rodeo’s production. Each event has a student and adult event director. Their job is to organize each event and ensure the rules for the event are adhered to. The size of this rodeo means that additional help is needed, and District 7 would like to thank the members of Cal Poly and Cuesta College Rodeo Teams for volunteering their time.

Events held throughout the weekend, beginning Fri morning include: cutting, roping, goat tying, rough stock riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing and pole bending.

Special events throughout the weekend include:

  • Jackpot Team Roping: Fri, Nov 17 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Super Slider Jackpot: Sat,Nov 18 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Silent auction begins Sat, Nov 18 at 10 a.m.
  • Raffle the afternoon of Sun, Nov 19. Tickets can be purchased throughout the rodeo
