Fair officials say claims are ‘totally inaccurate’

–Posts have been circulating on social media claiming that multiple people were drugged while attending concerts at the Mid-State Fair.

Officials at the Mid-State Fair released the following statement addressing the claims.

Officials at the California Mid-State Fair want to remind all guests that patron safety is our top priority.

While there has been a handful of completely false social media posts regarding “drugging” at the fair, one guest did file a report with Sheriff’s officials, alleging she was “drugged.” That guest complained of feeling “dizzy” and “anxious”, but refused any medical assistance. The investigation remains open.

Twin Cities Community Hospital spokesperson Ron Yukelson said social media rumors of multiple people being taken from the fair to the hospital in relation to being “drugged” are totally inaccurate.

As a proactive approach to public safety, fair officials and law enforcement personnel strongly encourage guests to immediately report any incidents of criminal or suspicious behavior.

Through Day 8 of the 12-day California Mid-State Fair, the new hand-wanding procedures for metal detection have worked extremely well, with guests having a very minimal slow-down coming through the gates.

The 2016 California Mid-State Fair runs through July 31. This year’s theme is “The Adventure Continues…”

You can't just say those claims are inaccurate when we personally know people who were drugged at the fair. Like instead of saying we're basically lying, get to the bottom of it, and make sure it doesn't happen again ! A metal detector has no way of finding out you have drugs on you, come on now ..

    Eric Binder

Yeah I know some of the victims you pretty much called liars in this BS article and your wanding is a joke, how bout actually getting professionals in there who know about security profession to the job right.

    Frances Contreras

Did they file a report? That will help get to the bottom of it

    Nick Lawrence

Well they can't help or figure out if the person was to be "drugged " refused medical treatment. Therefor the person is not telling truth. If the person really was drugged and worried about it they would want to get help to clear there system up.

    Danielle Barragan

Ok…..how are they being drugged? Are they not paying attention to their drinks, or is someone else bringing them their drinks, or……….how other way is there?

    Jennifer Barnett

This is completely false! My stepson was in the hospital and it was confirmed that he had been drugged. We have the hospital paperwork to prove it, and there is indeed an investigation that is going on, to try to figure out who drugged him. GHB poisoning is no laughing matter. It's the "date rape drug" that is being added to people's drinks. The sad thing is that this happened at Jimmy's Watering Hole. All my kids wanted to do was dance. Thanks Midstate Fair for lying to cover your arse!

    Jennifer Barnett

I don't blame the fair for what happened to my stepson. He is the one who drank the drink. But to blatantly say that it's a bunch of lies is irresponsible on their part! How about own up to the fact that it's happening, and warn people instead? Tell everyone to watch their drinks, and dont leave them unattended?

    Alexis Robinson

Nick Lawrence the medical staff was there and they got escorted out by medical staff. I watched it happen to someone I care about. Obviously misstate fair is going to brush it off cause they want people to keep coming

    Jennifer Barnett

It's being slipped into their drinks. I'm not sure about the other cases, but in our case a sip of a drink that was given to him had the drug in it. The drug is colorless, odorless, and they say it's tasteless, but I have heard that there is a slight salty flavor if it's not added to a flavored drink.

    Erika Hardesty

My son was drugged at the fair. He was one of 5 that were admitted to the hospital with signs of GHB. This is a total cover up and I will go to the tribune if there is nothing done to fix the issue. All of the claims have reported having gotten drinks from Jimmy's bar.

    Erika Hardesty

How about investigate the claims and try to prevent it from happening to others. My son was lucky, what happens if the next person isn't?

    Angela Parker Ramsey

The people at the gates need better training with the wands and bag searches …I didn't know a wand could move so fast …

    Chris Temple

Nick Lawrence She didn't refuse treatment. My son was with her in the hospital. That's how false this report is.

    Danielle Barragan

True, but that won't help for "drug" smuggling

    Danielle Barragan

One more thing…..it's not the fairs fault. They need to find out WHO served them the drinks and pay attention to your drinks. Don't have someone else get your drink for you! Plain as that!

    Darla Temple

I know if two completely unrelated girls who were drugged, one of which was taken in an ambulance from the fair, who were drugged.

    Bob Mcdonald

My friend had a similar incident at the duran concert. She has never been this drunk on three drinks in the ten plus years I have known her. She was one: poison by the alcohol, two: drugged by the server, or was over served meaning the drinks had more alcohol than a standard drink. Maybe instead of one normal shot there were 1.5 or 2 shots per drink. If that's true people were over served unless the sign saying this was posted at JG king's booth. I also heard his drinks are pre packaged. (terry midstate fair staff). If this happened to you write down everything you can remember: times, places. drinks, description of you server etc. You will need this info if you want to go forward. Appearently nothing was done to check the products to insure the public was safe after people had problems. AND as Terry said , he being that all experienced drinker himself, ….. one should sometime in their life take responsibilty for their actions. That's fine unless you are truly a victim. Make your reports to the fair office and the Sheriff If you feel your going forward. Good Luck

    Robin Guittard

    What happened to you?

    Suzanna Johnston

Unfortunately, as the ole saying goes, " the bad ruin it for the good ", put shortly. There are several out there who tend to feel the fair has changed, and not for the better, whereas I, as well as others think there it still is fun, people should know WHEN,WHERE,to go,definitely not a rock night, and be there around 10 or after,at the bars, etc. Use your head, and don't let children of ANY age 0-18 just "wonder" anywhere they want! Think they do try the very best they can with security, cleaning, depending on management of that paticular fair.
