Mission Prep Football to use safest helmet on the market

–Effective Sept. 25, Mission College Prep is equipping its entire football roster (Junior Varsity and Varsity) with the helmet that the pros are wearing – the VICIS ZERO1. The ZERO1 helmet is the top-ranked helmet in all of football. The VICIS ZERO1 performed better than all helmets tested in both the Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings and the NFL/NFLPA Laboratory Helmet Performance Testing for 2018.

Mission Prep is the first high school in San Luis Obispo County, and one of a dozen in the state of California, to outfit its entire roster with this cutting-edge helmet. The helmet was designed by mechanical engineers and neurosurgeons to reduce impact forces on the field.

Mission College Prep’s decision to equip its entire team in the helmet is part of the school’s larger commitment to student-athlete safety. Vic Ecklund, Athletic Director, stated “It is our responsibility to protect our young student-athletes by all means possible. The outfitting of our football players in the VICIS ZERO1 football helmet furthers our commitment to all of our current and future football players.”

VICIS custom fits each player with a ZERO1, which has multiple interior layers and a soft outer shell designed to slow impact forces similar to a car bumper.

“This helmet is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before,” said David Schuster, Varsity Football head coach. “I’ve been around football for 15 years and I’ve never seen technology like this. It’s an expensive helmet for a reason but it’s absolutely worth it when it comes to protecting our student-athletes. I think every parent would want to see their student playing football in the best helmet ever made. We want our players to feel safe on the field and our parents to be confident in our commitment to their child’s safety. Keeping our students safe is always at the forefront of everything we do.”

Dalton Strouss, (Inside Linebacker/Fullback) has been wearing the helmet for the past four games. He shared “I’ve noticed a huge difference. The Zero1 helmet is much more comfortable, durable and protective. I’ve never been afraid to play football but with the technology of the VICIS helmet I feel even more confident and don’t think about head or neck injuries.”

“The commitment to the safety of our student-athletes extends beyond providing the best equipment,” said Mike Susank, Principal at Mission Prep. “Creating an environment where each student can thrive physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, on and off the field, is part of the Mission Prep difference. Our coaches, across all sports, embrace this philosophy in their mission to develop well-rounded women and men for others. I would also like to thank the generous contributions from our school families and boosters which allowed us to move forward with the purchase of this helmet.”
