Model rocket causes vegetation fire
Paso Robles firefighters contain fire near riverbed
On Sunday at approximately 12:18 p.m., Paso Robles firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in the 2900 block of Union Road. According to a press release, firefighters first on the scene found a spot of grass and brush mix near the riverbed on fire. Firefighters were able to hold the fire to less than a quarter acre; traffic on Highway 46 East was briefly impacted by smoke.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a model rocket motor that was fired from the area of Barney Schwartz Park. No dollar loss or structure damage occurred as a result of the fire.
A total of 13 firefighters from the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services and CalFire/SLO County Fire Department responded to the incident.
