Montebello Oaks bike lane striping discussion continues

Decision on striping postponed to June council meetingpaso robles city seal

–At the most recent Paso Robles City Council meeting, the council directed the police and public works departments to monitor traffic speeds and vehicle operations along Montebello Oaks Drive for the next 30 days and report back to City Council along with additional analysis and options for optimal street functions as may be appropriate from that monitoring period.

This directive was at the conclusion of a great deal of citizen input. Those citizens were responding to the recent re-slurry and striping of the neighborhood street that included installation of a bike lane as planned for in the City’s Circulation Plan. Many citizens said that a bike lane is unnecessary, and made the driving lanes too narrow. Other feel that a bike lane slows traffic and makes it safer for bikers, who say they are currently not using the road often because of safety concerns.

The council will discuss the item again at the second meeting in June.
