Morning After Cafe opens in former Naked Fish location
Grand opening held Feb. 18
– Earlier this month, the Morning After Cafe, also called the “MAC Cafe”, held a grand opening in the former Naked Fish location on 13th Street in Paso Robles. Restaurant proprietors Daniel Cardinale and Karen Staeheli say they decided to make a strategic pivot from a sushi restaurant to a cafe during the pandemic.
“After a very tumultuous couple of years our Paso Robles Naked Fish location found itself dealing with several challenges ranging from inflated fish prices, lack of product availability, and rising operational costs,” said Cardinale.
“Over the years my partner Karen Kynett and I had countless conversations about our dream of having a brunch restaurant in my hometown of Paso,” he said. “Both being early risers and sharing a passion for brunch and champagne we decided December of 2021 was the perfect moment to breathe fresh air into our 13th St. location and pivot Naked Fish into MAC Cafe.”
The partners worked for two months to completely “flip the vibe from a classy Japanese sushi spot into the warm country farm vibe we wanted,” he said. MAC Cafe opened its doors officially on Feb. 18.
Some signature items include the hangover burrito smothered in “wavy gravy” topped with fried potato string haystack, and the Cubano with ham, bacon, pickled onion, Gruyère, Dijonnaise, house-made pickles pressed between a brioche roll. They offer house-made pastries, locally brewed Joebella coffee as well as mimosas every day.
“MAC Cafe delivers a breakfast experience unlike anywhere else and we couldn’t be happier to be home and doing what we love,” said Cardinale.
