Original story: A 56-year-old Santa Margarita man died this morning after trying to pass a car on his motorcycle east of Santa Margarita, the California Highway Patrol reports.

This morning at about 10:35 a.m., the Templeton office of the California Highway Patrol received notification of a injury traffic collision with an ambulance responding.

Upon arrival at the scene, responding units ascertained that the collision involved a solo motorcycle rider, riding a 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle which had been traveling northbound on Huer Huero Road approximately three miles south of Highway 58.

The rider, who’s identification is being withheld pending notification of family, was traveling northbound on Huer Huero Road at an estimated speed of 50 miles per hour, when he performed a passing maneuver to overtake a slower moving motorcycle. After completing the pass, the rider lost control of his motorcycle and was subsequently ejected from the motorcycle.

The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered fatal injuries to the head and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol and or drug impairment is not suspected to have contributed to this collision.
