Motorcycle rider suffers major injuries in crash

–A motorcycle rider suffered major injuries, including a severed leg, after colliding with a Jeep in Templeton Friday night, California Highway Patrol Reports.

Tim William Karels, 37, of Paso Robles was riding his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, eastbound on Creston Road just west of Neal Springs Road. Crystal Dawn Fauset, 33, of Creston, was driving her 2006 Jeep Cherokee, westbound on Creston Road just west of Neal Springs Road.

Witnesses stated that Karels had just passed their vehicle, going in the same direction, at an extremely high rate of speed, CHP reports. Seconds later, Karels, still riding in the middle of the roadway, sideswiped the oncoming Jeep, the report says. Alcohol appears to be a factor in this collision, the report says.

Karels suffered major injuries to his left foot, and left leg, while Fauset was not injured. Karels was flown to Sierra Vista Medical Center by CHP Helicopter, H-70.

Karels is currently in custody at Sierra Vista on suspicion of DUI, according to reports.

Creston Road was closed following the accident and has since reopened.

Correction: Story was updated to correct the spelling of the motorcycle rider. His name is Tim William Karels. It was misspelled in an initial news release from the CHP.
