Walks hosted every third Saturday in Los Osos

–Local naturalist Al Normandin hosts tours of the Elfin Forest at in Los Osos. The next walk will be hosted on Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m.

Normandin will lead a tour of the plants and lichens growing next to the boardwalk, saying what their names are and a little bit about them. He’ll identify types of mushrooms as well. He’ll also talk the monikers of any birds, insects or little critters encountered. Only a heavy rain will cancel this walk; if it’s sprinkling, put on a poncho or bring an umbrella.

This walk is sponsored by Small Wilderness Area Preservation or SWAP.

Meet at the north end of 15th Street off of Santa Ysabel in Los Osos. Wear comfortable shoes, long sleeves and pants to avoid poison oak. Park carefully, avoiding driveways and mailboxes and leave pets at home. The easy paced walk will last 1 to 1-1/2 hours. For more information call (805) 528-0392.
