    Nature enthusiasts gather for Morro Bay bird festival 

    Festival will feature more than 250 events led by 141 experts

    – The Morro Bay Bird Festival is set to take place Jan. 16-20, offering a variety of birding and nature-focused activities in one of California’s top winter birding destinations.

    The festival will feature more than 250 events led by 141 experts. Registered attendees can participate in guided birding and nature walks, attend presentations by birding experts, and take part in workshops on bird identification, photography, and conservation. Additional activities include birding aboard a bay cruise and a variety of social events.

    Approximately 700 registrants are expected to attend the five-day event. During the festival, 12 retail stores and 20 restaurants in Morro Bay and Los Osos will provide discounts to participants.     Online registration for the festival will close at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 14. In-person registration will begin Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. at the Morro Bay Community Center.

    The festival will also host a Community Family Day on Jan. 18, open to the public at the Morro Bay Community Center and Morro Bay Veteran Memorial Hall. This free event does not require registration and is first-come, first-served. Activities will include nature journaling workshops, owl pellet dissections, craft-making, live animal exhibits, and the Vendor Bazaar and Marketplace, where attendees can complete a “Passport to Knowledge” activity.
