– Famed astrophysicist and media personality Neil deGrasse Tyson will answer questions posed by Paso Robles high school students during a special program scheduled for Monday, Feb. 12 on VoiceOfPaso.com. Tyson will be a special guest on “Reality Radio,” a regular feature on the Voice of Paso. The interview will air at 6:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. It will also be available as a podcast at VoiceOfPaso.com.

Voice of Paso owner Steve Martin said he met Tyson while attending this year’s Emmy Awards. Martin’s daughter, former Bearcat Jamie Martin, received an Emmy for outstanding video editing at the event.

“Mr. Tyson was a presenter at the ceremony,” said Martin. “I bumped into him at the dinner afterwards and we had a brief conversation. Afterwards I contacted his office and arranged for him to receive questions submitted by our high school students. He recorded the answers and gave us permission to broadcast them. We are very excited to have a guest of his caliber on our station.”

Neil deGrasse Tyson is an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator. Since 1996, he has been the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City. He has produced a popular podcast entitled “StarTalk” and hosted the program “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.”

Voice of Paso (VOP) is the local Internet radio station serving Paso Robles, California. In addition to the “Reality Radio” series hosted by Martin, the station also features a “The Next Big Thing,” a tech feature produced by Darin Alvord Consulting, “The Art of Life,” hosted by Jill Thayer PhD, and sports programs “Bearcat Locker Room” and “The Wiemann Report” with Jim Wiemann. VOP is the only radio station broadcasting Paso Robles High School sports (football, boys/girls basketball, boys/girls soccer, volleyball, swimming and wrestling). In February the station will have carried 100 live sporting events since the beginning of the 2017 football season. VOP has also broadcasts other local events such as the Pioneer Day Parade, the Paso Robles Christmas Parade and the Vine Street Victorian Showcase.

Martin says VOP is just like any other station except the signal is carried world-wide on the Internet with CD quality audio.

“Internet radio really didn’t come into its own until it became available on portable devices,” said Martin “Originally, you had to sit by your desktop computer to hear it. Today, however, with tablets and smart phones and Bluetooth connections in automobiles you can take Internet radio wherever you go. There are lots of ways to tune in. Google it! You’ll see!”
