New area code coming to 805 in June
Starting 6/2/18 customers with an 805 area code must enter the area code for all calls
–The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will begin the process to establish a second area code due to available prefixes for the 805 area code expected to be used up by December 2018. The new area code is expected to be given to new customers asking for phone numbers after June 2018.
The change will apply to both landlines and cell phones and will affect San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties, even stretching to small portions of Monterey and Kern Counties. Even if you aren’t planning on getting a new number, it will affect you. You’ll have to dial 1, the area code, then the seven-digit phone number for all calls, even local calls made from 805 or 820 area codes.
The area served by the 805 area code includes small portions of Monterey and Kern Counties and most of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. The 805 area code serves the cities of Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Grover Beach, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo in San Luis Obispo County; Buellton, Carpinteria, Goleta, Guadalupe, Lompoc, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Solvang in Santa Barbara County; Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Ventura in Ventura County.
