New commissioner appointed to San Luis Obispo Superior Court

Appointee brings more than two decades of legal experience

    – The Superior Court of San Luis Obispo County has selected Joshua Martin as its newest Superior Court commissioner. The date of his swearing-in has not yet been determined.

Martin has 22 years of legal experience in family law, civil litigation, and criminal defense.

He earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2003 from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law and received dual bachelor’s degrees in English and history from California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt in 1999.

Presiding Judge Rita Federman said Martin has built a long career in San Luis Obispo as both a civil litigator and a certified family law specialist. “He is well regarded by the bench and bar alike for his legal acumen, work ethic, and calm, steady demeanor,” Federman said. “His experience with complex family law matters will serve him well as a bench officer. We are confident he will serve our community with distinction.”

Superior Court commissioners handle matters including family law, small claims, unlawful detainers (evictions), child support, domestic violence, civil harassment, traffic, and criminal cases. Commissioners must be active members in good standing with the State Bar of California and must have been admitted to practice law in California for at least 10 years.
