New funding boosts free meals for Paso Robles students
– The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has announced an amendment to its meal service policy under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the 2024-2025 school year. As a result of this policy change, all students at the following schools will receive lunch and breakfast at no charge:
- Maire Bauer Preschool
- Glen Speck Elementary
- Kermit King Elementary
- Winifred Pifer Elementary
- Pat Butler Elementary
- Virginia Peterson Elementary
- Georgia Brown Elementary
- Lewis Flamson Junior High School
- Paso Robles High School
- Liberty High School
- Independence High School
“It’s been free for the past few years because California decided to make it free for all students,” Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Food Service Director Jessie Wesch stated, “The difference is that we are now getting a little more funding with this provision, which will help improve the quality of meals for our students.”
This amendment is part of the district’s participation in the Community Eligibility Provision, which allows schools to provide free meals to all students, regardless of income.
