New head soccer coach named at Mission College Prep

Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School (MCP) named Alexis Lomeli the new head coach of the men’s soccer program. Lomeli assumed the role Oct 23.

“When we considered the possible candidates to take over the men’s soccer program, Alexis was at the top of the list. He has the coaching experience we were hoping for and he aligns with our institutional values of faith, sportsmanship, teamwork, and general excellence,” said Mike Susank, Principal of MCP.

“I take great pride in all I do when it comes to soccer,” said Lomeli. “My goals for the men’s soccer program is to make the program competitive and to work our way up the standings year to year ultimately qualifying for CIF.”

Lomeli joins MCP after a successful three years coaching St. Joseph women’s soccer team. Lomeli is also currently the volunteer director of operations for the Cal Poly women’s soccer program and currently coaches club soccer for SLO Soccer Club. He holds a USSF National C License for coaching.

Lomeli has also served as the assistant coach for the men’s soccer team at Alan Hancock College for four years then switched over to coach the women’s team for two more years. Lomeli’s coaching career began at Righetti High School as the assistant coach for the girls’ soccer team leading to winning the PAC 5 League Title; then the head coach for boys’ soccer team leading the team to win the PAC 8 League Title. Lomeli is a lifelong soccer player proving his skills on the field making it to the top 24 out of 3,000 players during tryouts for the professional team Chivas USA. Alexis’ playing experience spanned from playing varsity soccer for Righetti High School onto being team captain for two years at Alan Hancock College under coach Al Garcia.
