New luxury hotel hires key player

Martin Resorts has named Martin Beckett Director of Hospitality for the Piccolo Hotel, opening in Paso Robles this fall.

–In anticipation of the opening of the new Paso Robles Luxury hotel, The Piccolo, this fall, Martin Resorts has announced a new key player— Director of Hospitality Martin Beckett. In this role, Beckett is tasked with bringing the luxury brand to life by ensuring an impeccable guest experience that blends the sophistication of wine country with the relaxed Central Coast lifestyle.

Beckett, a hospitality professional who’s worked and lived in Paso Robles for the past 13 years, will oversee the hotel’s hospitality experience, from directing the beverage program and guest services to staff training and management.

Beckett, who starts at The Piccolo on June 17, recently helmed the culinary program at local favorite hotspot Pappy McGregor’s, where he created an extensive menu of award-winning Gastro Pub menu items and coached staff to provide a friendly and casual yet attentive service. Under his leadership, the Irish American pub won the local “Best Pub/Bar” choice award 11 times every year since they opened in 2006. Prior to that, he served as sous chef for Schooners Wharf in Cayucos for two years, supervising staff and food preparations for the extensive menu.

“We’re thrilled Martin is joining our team as the Director of Hospitality for The Piccolo,” said Margaret Johnson, COO of Martin Resorts, a family-owned organization on California’s vineyard covered Central Coast. “He really gets what Paso Robles is about and where it’s going, which is what The Piccolo is all about. We’re creating a “Paso Perfected” vibe which brings a new contemporary urban sensibility to the region, which is attracting more luxury travelers looking for an elevated hospitality experience while maintaining the authentic rustic charm of wine country.”

Beckett says he is excited by the challenge of ensuring he helps the team deliver on the “Paso Perfected” brand promise for the hotel, a 17,000-square-foot property which will boast 23 Luxury King Rooms and an exclusive suite, The Piper Wine Lounge, and Tetto the first and only rooftop bar in town.

“I think The Piccolo is an exciting, much-needed addition to the Paso Robles hotel scene, bringing a large-city feel that high-end clientele want while keeping the small-town hospitality they will remember and return for,” said Beckett.
