New quilting classes available this summer 

The City of Atascadero will be offering three different quilting classes this summer with instructor Lisa Gray. Ms. Gray is a patchwork and quilting instructor, as well as the founder of the Central Coast Quilt Study Group. The classes being made available are: “Quilt-Making 101,” a “Quilt-Maker’s Retreat” and “Identifying and Caring for Antique/Vintage Quilts.” Registration for all three classes is currently being accepted at the Colony Park Community Center located at 5599 Traffic Way in Atascadero, or on the City’s website at www.atascadero.org.Quilting

Quilt-Making 101 will cover the fundamentals of patchwork and quilting, including tools, skills, and finishing the quilt. This class is especially designed for the beginner, or for those who want a refresher.  Class will meet Fridays, June 5 to July 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost for this session will be $75 for Atascadero residents or $82.35 for non-residents.

The Quilt-Maker’s Retreat will share techniques, tips and have lots of uninterrupted sewing time. Students are encouraged to bring along a favorite project and sew to your heart’s content. The retreat will be held on Friday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost for the retreat will be $65 for Atascadero residents or $71.35 for non-residents.

The Identifying and Caring for Vintage or Antique Quilts class will discuss quilt care, including cleaning and restoration. Students will learn guidelines to quickly identify the age and pattern of favorite quilts. Class will meet Saturday, August 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. And will cost $35.50 for Atascadero residents or $38.90 for non-residents.
