New scoreboard for War Memorial Stadium

Crews install shiny new board just in time for Paso vs A-town football game

After months, maybe even years, of trying to repair and restore the scoreboard at War Memorial Stadium, the former 28-year-old board was replaced with a shiny new crimson-colored board on Wednesday by crews from the Paso Robles Unified School District grounds and maintenance department.

Anyone who has attended a Bearcats football or soccer game over the past year or two is sure to remember trying to guess what numbers the old scoreboard was trying to display – was that a 3 or 13? Some of the problems with the old scoreboard — the controlling system had partially failed as did many of the light circuits, the wiring and sockets had all but crumbled, and finding parts for the outdated system was becoming impossible.

Now, the new functioning scoreboard will light up the scores at football games, soccer games and additional local youth activities in the years ahead. According to Paso Robles High School Athletic Director Tom Harrington, there is still a need for a digital message center to replace the one surrounding the former scoreboard. Look for announcements soon on how the community can help with donations for this venture.

Come out to War Memorial Stadium on Friday night to see the new scoreboard and support the PRHS varsity Bearcats (7-2, 4-1 PAC 7) as they host the rival Atascadero Greyhounds (7-2, 5-0 PAC 7) in a battle for the PAC 7 title. The junior varsity players take the field at 4 p.m. and varsity plays at 7 p.m.
