New Year’s Resolutions That Make Sense

Are you tired of making New Year’s resolutions that are forgotten by January 2nd? Unfortunately, procrastination and forgetfulness are all too common when it comes to oaths and promises like those we all take the day after the confetti falls and champagne corks blow. What’s the solution? For many, the best way to make a promise they won’t break is to focus on something simple.

People often have the most success when they single out one thing they feel strongly about changing or doing. Quitting smoking is at the top of many personal lists, as is getting finances in order, supporting local causes, spending more time with family, living a safer lifestyle, or cutting down on everyday stress. Here are several resolutions that not only make sense but can also help you get started on the road to self-improvement, financial health, and making other positive changes.

Stop Smoking

One of the most common things people attempt to do to improve their lives is to quit smoking. This year, even if you’ve tried and failed before, give it another go. Giving up tobacco is great way to eliminate toxins from your body and support your overall health.

Consider joining a quitter’s group online or in person. There are hundreds of free resources and groups out there to help you give up the tobacco habit. Many successful quitters turned to groups and professional counseling to get the job done and finally kick their addiction. Stopping smoking is not only good for your health but is also a super-fast way to save a significant amount of money. The average pack-a-day smoker saves more than $2,400 every year after quitting.

Spend Less Money Every Month

Single and married people sometimes struggle with getting their monthly expenses down. It’s a common dilemma. Fortunately, there are lots of effective ways of addressing the challenge. For working adults who have multiple student loans, a fast solution is to refinance all of them into one. A student loan refinance package from a private lender can give you access to more favorable terms, lower rates, and the chance to cut a significant chunk off monthly expenses.

Support a Local Charity

Want to do some good for your community and yourself? Consider donating your time, labor, or money to a local charitable organization. Many find it highly rewarding to make a personal connection with a non-profit entity in their hometown. That way, it’s easier to see where your dollars and other contributions go. If you aren’t sure where to begin, speak with a social service agency in your hometown and let them know you want to do something positive for the community.

Put De-Stress Time on the Daily Schedule

If the holidays don’t stress you out, then you’re unique. However, if you’re like most people, you’ll jump at the chance to cut down on stress. This resolution is simple and delivers quick results. Set aside a half-hour session in the early morning or afternoon during which you can sit down and completely relax your mind and body. After just a week or two, you’ll likely experience a measurable reduction in daily stress levels.
