Nine people rescued from Salinas River after being stranded by rising waters

Officials issued evacuation warnings to riverbed occupants starting on Feb. 10

    – Nine people were rescued from an island in the Salinas River on Feb. 13 after being stranded by rising waters, according to Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services.

Paso Robles Police and Fire dispatch received a report of the stranded individuals, prompting a response from fire crews with three engines, a battalion chief, and Rescue 8151 with Boat 8140, which was upstaffed due to the storm.

Crews launched Boat 8140 and safely rescued the individuals from riverbed encampments. The Paso Robles Police Department, California Highway Patrol Helicopter 70, and San Luis Ambulance assisted with victim location and assessment.

None of the victims required medical treatment, and no responders were injured.

Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services reminded residents of the importance of heeding evacuation messages. Officials issued evacuation warnings to riverbed occupants starting on Feb. 10, with additional storm and evacuation warnings continuing throughout the week.

Authorities also warn that the Salinas River poses significant life and health hazards due to dangerous river flow and high bacteria levels.

Tax dollars hard at work for the homeless who ignore the warnings. Money and resources can be better spent elsewhere if these people would heed the warnings.
