Obituary for Martha Sandoval Jones, age 90

Martha Sandoval Jones

Martha Sandoval Jones.

–Martha Sandoval was born to Elias and Selina Sandoval on April 13, 1928 in Durango, Colorado, the third born in a family of eleven children. She began her call of mothering almost immediately. Her siblings call her their second mother.

Martha graduated high school and attended the Latin American Bible Institute in Ysleta, Texas. She was a devout Christian and was faithful to her church.

In 1952, her brother mentioned to a fellow soldier that his sister would enjoy getting letters from him. Allen Dale Jones began writing Martha. In the beginning of 1953, he came home on leave. They were married in San Jose, California, ten weeks later. Early in their marriage, they moved to Paradise, California and attended Paradise Assembly of God. In 1996, they moved to Paso Robles to live with their daughter Dorothy’s family. They then attended and served at The Revival Center of Paso Robles where their son-in-law, Bishop Gabriel Abdelaziz, pastors.

Martha is survived by their four children: Dorothy Ann Abdelaziz (Gabriel) of Paso Robles, Richard Allen Jones, Lawrence Dean Jones (Rebecca) of Frederick, Maryland, and Janice Lynne Jones of Paso Robles. She was the grandmother of eight and the absolutely adored great-grandmother of twenty-one. She is also survived by four sisters (Laura, Phyllis, Bella, Geneva) and two brothers (Orville, Lawrence).

Martha was a very accomplished seamstress and sewed for pleasure almost every day of her adult life until she suffered a stroke in 2013.

Martha loved babies. Dale and Martha were the foster parents of almost sixty newborns and children. When they stopped fostering, she continued to babysit children for working mothers. One mother poignantly thanked her for helping her raise her children. She taught the two and three-year-olds in her church’s Sunday School for over ten years. Even in the past few years, if there was a baby around, they would eventually make their way into her arms.
Most of the people around her felt her mothering in one way or another. Many have said she took care of them, helped them with motherly advice, and helped them out financially. Martha was a quiet soul who did not like the spotlight, but the impact she has left on all those who met her has been profound. We will all miss her.

Martha’s Celebration of Life will be held at The Revival Center Church, 3850 Ramada Dr., Paso Robles. Services will be on Jan 18 at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held 1 hr. prior to services.
