– Barbara Jean French, a long-time resident of Atascadero for over 50 years, went to heaven peacefully on May 16, 2025. She was born on October 2nd, 1942, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the first daughter of 9 children from the parents of Clovis and Dorthy Deering. At a very young age, her parents moved to Grover Beach.
She spent the majority of her life growing up in San Luis Obispo County, later attending King’s Garden High School in Seattl,e Washington. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, Ernie French Jr., to later be married in Basel, Switzerland in 1963. They spent their first 18 months of marriage in Frankfurt, Germany, where her husband was stationed in the Army. They were privileged to have traveled to 15 countries together, with many memories.
Barbara was always a selfless, caring person providing love, care, support, and protection to her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, and to everyone that she loved. She found comfort and joy in spending time with babies, family, grandchildren, reading her bible, listening to praise and worship, gardening and as her children we would remember her listening and singing to Karen Carpenter songs. She was so loved by many and will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her three children, son Ernie French lll, daughters Debbie French, Shelley Barnett, five Grandchildren Joshua, Kaala, Selah,, Tiffany, and Anthony and two great grand children Wrenley and McKayla, Two brothers David and Butch and three sisters Carol, Rosalie and Marie. She is preceded in death by both her parents, her husband Ernie Jr, three sisters, Patsy, Edna, Fay, and one great-grandchild, Codi.
A graveside service will be held at Atascadero Pine Mountain Cemetery with a Service at Atascadero Bible Church at 11:30, located at 6225 Atascadero Ave. Following a celebration of life to be announced. You have been a blessing to all who have had the opportunity to be a part of your life until we see you again.
