Obituary of Frederick Raymond Oliver, 78
September 2, 1943 – March 26, 2022
– Rick Oliver grew up in a military family residing in Hawaii, Japan, and many continental states. He spent most of his life in Paso Robles, attending school until he relocated to Tokyo, Japan. It was in Japan that his love affair with motorcycles began, where he was noticed by Factory Kawasaki and offered a professional development ride. His parents preferred he attend school and he returned to Paso Robles, where he was an honorary Bearcat class of 1961. Following graduation from Cal Poly, he served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army 1st Air Cavalry Division, during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He returned to Paso Robles and entered into a career in mental health, working as a Clinical Psychologist for 40 years. He spent considerable time on motorcycles with competitive racing as an avocation.
Rick was a mentor, healer, and compassionate guide to many veterans and those in distress. Rick lived a life of quiet joy and love, treating each day as a gift. He was the beloved husband of Gail McNichols and daughter Jordan, son-in-law Jeff, and grandson Jack. He also leaves behind extended family Susan, Kyle, Sara, Julia, Leanne, Daniel, and many great-grandchildren. For information regarding a memorial service please call (805) 226-9695.
