    Obituary of Janette Cardozo, 82

    Janette Marie "Cricket" Cardozo

    Janette Marie “Cricket” Cardozo.

    – Janette Marie “Cricket” Cardozo (nee Wilbur) passed away peacefully on Dec. 16, 2025, in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, at the age of 82.

Cricket is survived by husband Carlos Cardozo, daughter Tiffany Wilson, sisters Jacque Devine and Mary McLellan, numerous nieces and nephews, their children, and grandchildren. And, an extended family made up of friends, neighbors, “ex-in-laws”, and school kids. She is preceded in death by her sister Jodi, parents Ethel Annette Phillips and Frank McLellan, and father Jack Pershing Wilbur.

Born on December 28, 1942, in Paso Robles, California, to Jack Wilbur and Ethel Phillips. She graduated from California State Polytechnic College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. After relocating to New Jersey, she began working for what would become AT&T and became an Information Management Manager, and in 2001, married Carlos.

Beyond her professional career, Cricket took on several roles. She managed her own cleaning business, Keep It Clean, became a lifelong member of Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey, working at their council office and volunteering endlessly. Cricket was also on the board of the Drake House Museum, but, out of all, her “most favorite-ist” career choice was becoming a Plainfield Crossing Guard.

Cricket was an avid Villanova Wildcats Basketball enthusiast, a theater fan (particularly of high school, community, and local), a patron of kids’ arts, a proud, and supportive mother, loved by all who knew her.

Her light was felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her and will continue on in all who love her.

A memorial will be scheduled for January. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity. Here are some of Cricket’s:

    Caring Contact – Westfield, NJ.
    Habitat for Humanity.
