Obituary of Richard Carl Yingling, 88

    Richard Carl Yingling.

Richard Carl Yingling (Born 8-9-1937, Fremont, Ohio – Died 12-8-2025, San Miguel, CA)

    – Richard Carl Yingling passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 88. Richard was born in Fremont, OH, on August 9, 1937, to the late Bernice (ne Stout) and Carl Yingling. He attended St. Joseph’s High School, where he was a member of the championship football team. He went on to study electrical engineering and mathematics at Fenn College (1960) (now Cleveland State University) and later earned a master of science degree (1962) in engineering from the University of Arizona, specializing in electrical engineering.

Richard spent the majority of his professional career at the Aerospace Corporation, contributing to satellite programs. Throughout his career, he was known for his intellect, precision, and dedication to solving complex problems.

A classical engineer, Richard loved to fix things and understand how they worked. He took pleasure in taking things apart, adapting and improvising solutions, and putting them back together—often better than before. “Do-it-yourself” came naturally to him, and his ingenuity extended far beyond his professional work into every aspect of his daily life. He valued authenticity over appearance and was content being exactly who he was.

Richard was married to Marilyn Yingling (née Kensicki) for over 50 years, until her passing in [date] in 2023. In his final 17 years, Richard made his home on eight acres in San Miguel, outside of Paso Robles, California, where he grew grapes and found great enjoyment in working outdoors. He rode his old, faithful bike everywhere, including through wine country, often cycling to pick up parties. Richard was also an avid tennis player throughout his life and played up until a few months prior to his passing.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Laura Pratt and Vanessa Yingling, and his four grandchildren, Angela Pratt, Andrew Pratt, Alexandra Gabriel-Yingling, and Nicholas Gabriel-Yingling. He was predeceased by his brother James Yingling and sister Judy Turner.
