    Feb. 15, 1941 – Dec. 27, 2023

    – Richard Arnold Hoffmann passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at his home in San Miguel, California.

    “Dick” was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Concord, California to his parents Bernhardt and Esther Hoffmann.

    He attended elementary and middle school in San Miguel, graduated from Paso Robles High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. His entire career was spent working in the U.S. Navy’s Materials Lab at Mare Island Naval Shipyard until the Pentagon decommissioned the base in 1996.

    Dick was a lifelong resident of California and took pride in his membership in the Native Sons of the Golden West, a fraternal organization dedicated to the preservation of California history. He held several leadership positions and was the organization’s Grand President in 1998-1999.

    Survivors include his brother Don (JoAnn); his three children, Kimberly Bright; Marjorie Kucich (Roger); and Gary Hoffmann (Shannon); and eight grandchildren.

    Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; brothers Christian and Frederick; brother-in-law Fred Thacker; brother-in-law Dan Rosetta; son-in-law Robert Bright and nephew Jonathan McNabb.

    A memorial service for our beloved father, brother and friend will be held at the Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home at 1703 Spring Street in Paso Robles, California on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2023, at 1 p.m.
