Octagon Barn Center to celebrate grand opening Sept. 21

–After twenty years of restoration, planning, and construction, the Octagon Barn Center in San Luis Obispo project is complete. While some finishing touches will be added throughout the fall, the center is ready for its debut as a brand-new community gathering place centered around the iconic and historic Octagon Barn.

The grand opening on Saturday Sept. 21 will be an all-day event with live music, a wide variety of food, wine tasting from five Edna Valley wineries, free kids’ activities, an art show by the San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment, and more. The event is free to attend from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Starting at 5 p.m. there will be a ticketed benefit concert inside the Barn featuring the Shawn Clark Family Band. For a schedule and a complete list of musicians and vendors, please visit www.OctagonBarn.org.

The Octagon Barn Center is now accepting reservations for both private and public events in 2020. As the future trailhead for the Bob Jones City-to-Sea Trail when the bike trail extends from Avila, the Center will be critical to facilitating bike-friendly transportation and recreational trails. The Octagon Barn Center will serve as a community gathering place to host events; from non-profit fundraisers, workshops, weddings, and farmer’s markets, to film and music events. It will be a tourist destination that welcomes thousands of visitors each year as they approach the southern entrance of San Luis Obispo. Visitors of all ages will learn about SLO County’s rich dairy history, honoring the legacy of local farming and the efforts of local families who helped shape our community.

The Octagon Barn Center will be a special place for people to learn about and celebrate San Luis Obispo County’s unique history and local lands. Because of its central location in the County and its proximity to the City of San Luis Obispo, the Octagon Barn Center will serve a diverse constituency including San Luis Obispo County residents, businesses, and families of varying socio-economic backgrounds. Regularly scheduled docent led tours will available beginning in the Summer of 2020.

Funding it still needed for construction and start-up costs. To make a tax-deductible charitable donation to support the Octagon Barn Center, visit The Land Conservancy’s website at www.LCSLO.org or call Kaila Dettman, Executive Director, at (805) 544-9096.
