Police warn: Off-road vehicles are prohibited in riverbed

off road vehicleWeekends have been ‘getting out of hand recently,’ says police

– The Paso Robles Police Department posted a reminder recently that riding off-road vehicles (OHVs) in the Salinas riverbed is illegal:

We’ve received lots of questions regarding riding OHVs in the riverbed. The area – where everyone likes to ride – behind Firestone is city property. Riding OHVs on city property is prohibited. The gate everyone crosses is posted with a no trespassing sign. We also know there are numerous transient issues in the riverbed as well. We have a team of officers dedicated to dealing with transient issues in the riverbed. But, we must also deal with the constant OHVs in the riverbed.

The weekends have been getting out of hand recently, with loads of vehicles, toy haulers, and trailers showing up to ride. It’s becoming an issue. If you’ve noticed, our officers have been out there advising folks of the city ordinances regarding riding OHVs. Please utilize one of the sanctioned OHV areas nearby.
