–Last Thursday at approximately 6:09 p.m. an investigator with the California Highway Patrol observed a vehicle parked on Linne Rd approximately 4 miles east of Paso Robles.

The location of the parked vehicle was suspicious. The investigator contacted SLO CHP dispatch and provided the plate number to the dispatcher. The vehicle came back stolen out of Santa Maria. The investigator requested secondary units to assist him. CHP Officers from Templeton responded.

Prior to their arrival, the occupants of the stolen vehicle drove away, turning westbound on Linne Rd. driving back towards Paso Robles. The investigator advised the responding units. A CHP unit set up at Pennman Springs Rd. As the stolen vehicle passed by, the marked CHP unit pulled in behind the stolen vehicle and initiated an enforcement stop. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.

An additional marked CHP unit entered the pursuit at Linne and Frontage Rd. The suspect continued onto westbound Sherwood Rd. where he turned southbound onto Commerce. The suspect vehicle made a quick eastbound turn onto Scott St and another quick turn southbound onto Driftwood Dr. The driver continued southbound and finally made a westbound turn onto Larkfield Place, which was a cul-de-sac. The suspect attempted to make a u-turn and CHP units were able to stop and contain the suspect vehicle and suspect within the cul-de-sac due to the suspect vehicle crashing into the undercover police vehicle and getting pinned into a dirt embankment.

As a result of the crash, the investigator was injured. The suspect and passenger were both taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect, identified as Santa Maria resident Marcos David Rodriguez was charged with stolen vehicle, poss. of stolen property, felony evading causing injuries, and assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle).
