Update: Identities, more information released regarding military vehicle accident

The names of the parties involved in the crash Wednesday have been released by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Acura who lost his life in the crash is identified as 58-year-old Chan Kee Chung. The driver of the military vehicle is identified as 49-year-old Cecil Gabriel Johnson. His passenger was 24-year-old Christina Astorga. The driver and passenger have both been released from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries.

Drugs and alcohol were not a contributing factor to this collision.

One dead after collision involving large tactical military vehicle

Accident occurred near the ‘Cholame Wye’

–On Wednesday at approximately 7:42 a.m., a 49-year-old Army Reserve Sergeant from San Bernardino was driving a large Tactical vehicle in a military convey eastbound on Highway 46 at Davis Road. A 58-year-old male from Rowland Heights California was driving his 2000 Acura TL Westbound on Highway 46. The left front tire of the military vehicle suffered a sudden failure, sending it across the center line of the road and into the opposing lane.

The two vehicles collided head-on causing fatal injury to the Rowland Heights man driving the Acura. Both the driver and the passenger of the military vehicle were transported to Twin Cities hospital for minor injuries.
