One dead, two injured in Highway 46/41 crash

–A car accident has left one dead and two injured at Highway 41/46 intersection near Cholame. On Saturday at 7:46 a.m., 61-year-old Haneul Lee of Fresno was driving her 2016 Honda Odyssey east on Highway 46 approaching Highway 41, at an unknown speed. A 2000 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 64-year-old Robert Sanchez-Villegas and front passenger, 73-year-old James Bray of Bakersfield, was traveling westbound on Highway 46 at approximately 50-55 miles per hour approaching the 41.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Honda failed to yield to oncoming traffic; subsequently, the driver of the Honda turned directly into the path of the Chevrolet, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Lee was transported by ground to Sierra Vista Hospital. Villegas sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced at the scene. Bray was transported by air to Sierra Vista Hospital.

Impairment is not suspected; however, the collision is still under investigation.

Since March, there have been six fatal crashes, including Saturday’s collision, near the Cholame “Y,” named for the shape made by the forking of Highways 46 and 41 east of Paso Robles, according to a recent report.
